Sometimes you get better when you spend more on makeup. And other times, it’s completely not necessary.
I grew up in a home where there was a belief that designer makeup is better. My mother’s vanity was always full of little Chanel compacts. When it was time to stock up on my own, I opted for Bobbi Brown. Both Bobbi Brown and M.A.C. were the popular, more youthful brands but still great quality brands. For years, Bobbi was a great click for me. I’d usually refresh my makeup around Chanukah time as a gift for myself. I like for everything to look neat and match, so sticking to one brand for most items worked for me.
But I always wondered: Is it really necessary to spend so much? Over the past couple of years, I tried different brands of drugstore alternatives for the basics I’d use everyday. (Note: As you read in this post, I had also tried cheaper alternatives of concealing cream, but none worked as well). I didn’t like any of the alternative bronzer and blushes that I tried.
But, then, I finally hit on a product that actually was just about identical! The ironic thing was that even the packaging was (almost) the same. (The only difference is that the Maybelline is a little larger and has an ugly logo on the compact, which I tried to peel off but couldn’t). They’re even available in the same range of colors!
The Maybelline Fit Me products came in at about one-eighth of the price of the Bobbi Brown and contains about 20% more product. Compare the two brands and products here:
