Kids will love creating this easy-to-make, edible dreidel. It’s the perfect mess-free project to enjoy, at home, at a party, or in the classroom.
As a teacher, I had been looking for an easy, mess-free project I can create with my students. That meant–no melting chocolate, no marshmallow fluff. I actually looked first on Between Carpools to find one!
Soon, I realized, I would need to create the edible dreidel I envisioned. I tested it out with my own children and they were able to make the dreidels successfully on their own. Now, it was classroom ready,
When I first thought of this concept, I was worried that the cookie might crack when trying to drill in the lollipop stick–but with 27 students, I only had one cracked cookie. Other teachers saw my little craft and decided it’s perfect to do with their children at home too. A Freilichen Chanukah!
Gather Your Ingredients:
- Fizzers/Aspirin Candies/Winkies
- Soft Taffys
- Fizz Lollipops/Winky Pops
- Sandwich Cookies
- Lasso Candy
- Edible Markers (also available in the baking section of your grocery)
Now that you’ll have edible markers, check out another chanukah activity… the cookie coloring station.

Unwrap a Winky Pop and use the stick to drill a hole in the center of the sandwich cookie.

Don’t poke or the cookie will crack. You want to drill it in slowly.

Using an edible marker, draw letters on the winkies: nun, gimmel, hey, and shin. Take a soft taffy and break it up into 4 balls that are smaller than a Winkie.

Place a ball behind each winkie and “glue” each winkie to the sandwich cookie.

Wrap a lasso around the sticky taffy lolly stick.

Use some more taffy to close it up on top.
