We love bringing Yom Tov and other Jewish themed crafts to our readers. You can never have too many!

A reader recently brought to our attention this glue and salt painting craft that’s become popular lately. We decided a Chanukah version would be perfect!

So what do you need? Some Elmer’s style school glue, table salt (we tried kosher salt and it did NOT work well), heavyweight printer paper (regular printer paper will work, too, but this is better), paintbrushes and some watercolor paints. This project will be done in two stages with drying time in between.

We designed these simple line drawings that would be easy to trace with the glue.

Trace as smoothly as possible, but you can carefully clean up any mistakes after adding the salt.

Cover the glue with table salt

and carefully shake off the excess.

Let this dry fully.

Dilute a bit of watercolor paint in plastic bowls of water. Using a separate paintbrush for each color is most efficient.

Using the brush, dab a bit of watercolor onto the salt outline.

Watch the color spread along the salt, but not on the paper beneath it! Play around with color blending, too, for extra creativity.
